Ignition key

I needed a replacement key switch for my Atlas and early 900 Yamaha switches come close to fitting including their built-in steering lock but the one I got from a weaker came without a key. Locksmiths can cut a key if you supply the lock. It's a bit expensive, mine was $80 Oz.

I have a complete new ignition switch from Motalia. It's body is rather too small for the instrument support bracket.
I've found a couple of 107 keys in a draw. They fit a spare switch I have, but it needs work on the wiring, whereas I have a nice 108 switch I'd prefer to use.

I just talked to a local locksmith and it turns out that you only need the key number if you use the Silca SZ4 blank. Silca is an Italian manufacturer and the blank in question refers to a Suzuki (maybe?) and if a locksmith has a Silca key machine, he will be able to make a copy with just the number, although it may have been stamped by Laverda. We checked my key number 110 and the file he found matched the key perfectly. Copying a key from an existing key is cheaper, but it can also be done based on just a number. Live and learn...

Let's continue. And this is just for fun. I 3D modeled and printed a copy of my key. I'm not going to use it because the filament is petg and not strong enough. But I think if I print it from carbon fiber reinforced (long fiber) PA it would be usable. And really light, as motorcycle parts should be. 😁
