I can't see much use for terminal 50 on a bike. Who starts a bike with the key?

Standard on many Moto Guzzis of the early 70's...  They changed to handlebar starters when the Lego-style switches were introduced.

Ok, I put a multimeter across the terminals on the switch and tried the key in each of the 3 positions:

Key in centre: none of the terminals are live (key can be removed from switch) I guess this is off position.

Key to left: 30 and 16 live (key can be removed from switch) Ignition only on?

Key to right: all 4 terminals are live (key cannot be removed from switch) Ignition and lights on together?

With the key to the right each contact is live to each of the others. I thought they were paired for ignition, paired for lights, not all interconnected??????

Still at a loss to work out which colour wire goes to which terminal....

Centre, Off
Left, Parking lights
Right, On

Can't help with the wiring colours but should be fairly easy to figure out with a multimeter.

I thought it was easier to understand but then I read that:

30 - 12V direct from battery
16 - Bit of a mystery as it's not listed in the DIN Standard, probably switched 12V
15/54 - Switched 12V for ignition or accessories
50 - Starter (I presume it's a momentary contact switch with spring return, as with the key starter on a car)

So why should each terminal be live to each of the other 3 in the On position?
I would have thought they should have been paired only.

Parking light circuit...

AS I said earlier, the only switch I could get to replace my Pantah one would either not power the park circuit and I would not have a taillight or dash lights at all, park function,or power them all the time.Down to different terminals powering up between switch's.I could have changed the wiring to suit the new switch but way to much work.Good luck with this Grant, its a mind fuck and much more complicated than you think if the harness doesn't suit the switch configuration.

Doesn't use terminal 50 though.
The Cali diagram seems to be a bit at odds with the Bosch DIN numbers

Terminal 50 to coils via kill switch on that diagram.
15/54 is power in from battery - unfused
30 takes power via fuse to start relay and brake switches
16 takes power via fuse to light switch.

And I can confirm that my Cali is wired exacly like the diagram. Amazing concidering the butchery it's recieved eleswhere. You wouldn't recognise it as a Cali at all.

I'd say you need a longer clutch cable... That's not Don Cairns old bike is it?

Or lower 'bars - I don't recognise the name. I bought it from Graham Law who took it over from a guy who had it for 10 years or so, but passed away.
