Ignition timing light

I am in need of a new timing light any recommendations. I know you get what you pay for but I do not want to spend more than $100. The unit I have now has a problem with the pickup not picking up all the impulses so it flashes intermittently sometimes not at all , I plan on using it on bike and auto, Thanks Dave.

Dave, I use a Xenon inductive type that runs off a 12v battery and clips over the HT lead. I've been advised not to run it off the bike battery but off a seperate one because using the bike's battery can apparently introduce false triggers. I also run another clip wire off the -ve battery clamp to an engine bolt. Works fine this way and is easy to flip from one HT lead to another without stopping the bike. Cost $50.

:D

Dave, get a Snap On, pretty much universal among bike mechanics I've met here. Expensive but you can get them on eBay used, http://www.ebay.com/itm/SNAP-MT-2261-COMPUTERIZED-TACH-ADVANCED-TIMING-LIGHT-Nr-99-/170768444118?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr&hash=item27c297aad6

I have a Gunson inductive one.  The ability to dial in the advance so that (IIRC, it's been ages since I used it) you just dial in say 32 degrees advance and then check that the TDC line on the flywheel and the  crank case line up at the apropriate time is useful.
