Import to Aus from Wolfgang

Am about to order some parts from Wolfgang - does anyone know how the GST gets paid on this - does it get impounded at the border and a bill sent?

Usual when I order stuff from China GST is charged at source - not sure how this works but I presume that Wolfgang is not set up to do this.

My advice would be
Stop ordering stuff from China
Simple.....

Don’t stress over the GST
Most times you don’t get charged
If they do decide to charge you then the customs dept will inform you and you can pay them directly

if the value is over $1,000 you get hit GST, handling fees, etc which add up to approx 18%
But Wolfgang is aware of all of those issues and will dispatch with a stated lower value
There will be no issue at all
 
Thanks Tom & Red. Checked on line and the $1000 limit is for import for businesses - for consumers you have to pay GST for any value of import. I will get Red to put a business name on the shipment.

Most of the stuff I order from China is electrical components at 10% of what I would pay locally.
 
I bought a couple of new Brembo 4 spot calipers from a shop in Canada for what I thought was a great price just as a change happened with oz postage costs, who knew. So I got a call to head to the huge Postal Facilities near Granville station in western Sydney and was told I needed to pay $200 bucks to get my bits. Added up to to virtually the same if I had bought them from Gowanlochs.

Thanks Vicnce - Was that GST/import duties or postage - Wolfgang is offering DHL so should not have to pay any extra for that as it should be door to door.
 
Recently brought in an exhaust system with no additional charges and rated at full price. However - am finding that stuff which I buy overseas and which is sent by DHL in excess of the duty free limit is more likely to get pinged this end than normal post with the ubiquitous duty text received for payment.
 
DHL are exorbitant here with their duty collection charges. The post office has a flat NOK150 (€15) fee plus the duty, which officially is chargeable on every single item since the under NOK200 exemption was canned but it is hit and miss if they charge on small stuff these days. DHL fee is twice that plus the duty and they charge it on every single shipment. I refuse to get stuff sent via DHL. Phil Todd sent on a gearbox for my son's 125 Aprilia via a shipping company, the duty and charges far more than doubled the cost of the gearbox, but it fortunately kept the bike going long enough to get sold.
