No but they should be taken fully down as far as they can be. If you over-tighten them you risk stripping the thread in the cases. When you torque down the head nuts you are pulling directly upwards on the studs, not turning them in their threads.
 
Bleeding obvious but make sure the long threaded end is the one that screws into the case, check there all the same length as well. My DPO put one in upside-down years ago, discovered then it was too tall to fit the rocker box and cut it to suit. I then used the Green book toque valves, WRONG, pulling that thread out and the fix of a big sert failed resulting in the need for a replacement case. Dunning Cruger stricks again, another expert DPO.

Vince, think you are referring to the triple, as the torque value of 5 kgm in the green book is correct for the 750.
The long threaded end in the crankcase part is very true for both twins and triples.
