Instrument holder

Hi Miguel,
have you now bought a 1200? I should have one instrument holder for you. Only the holder plate or also the clamps?
Ciao, Gert

Hi Gert!

I need the alloy holder plate that holds the instrument bracket and the handlebar, like in all models except the later ones. I also need the clamp and the instruments, but all that is easier to find. I found in subbito a set of pair of instruments and the plate, if he still has it, I will buy it, otherwise I will come back to your offer.

Yes, I bought a 1200 3CL nr 1762, at a good price for certain circumstances, it will need restoration but is very complete.

The restoration of the 3C is now a bit stopped as all parts have been spread out through out Europe for corresponding treatments and repairs. And now I am "restoring" the 500, that is in worse condition than expected, so I have to paint the frame and do some electric repairs, rubbers....

it is a bit insane, but it helps to keep my mind busy in this difficult times, its now 1 year in "Kurzarbeit" :-[

Miguel

Shouldn't it have the one-piece aluminium part?

Ernesto

Hi Ernesto,

I think we are talking about the same thing. The single plate holder, that suports with 3 bolts and rubbers the "w" that holds both instruments with its corresponding rubber ring.

This is how it looks now:

I think my 1200 has Ducati instruments, they broke in a little accident before the bike stopped, and the owner bought those new gauges, that I will resell once I have the Laverda ND

Blimey. Someone has done a butchery job on that. The instruments still look OK though.

yes... :'(

I still don't understand those instruments... they have the Laverda logo on them, but the back plate looks different, like ducati instruments, maybe is a Laverda instrument with ducati back plate? but the zero knob is on a side... i don't know.
I think because the back plates didn't fit in the standard holes-braketing, he did this butchery

Miguel

Yes, that zero knob is a bit of a mystery. It should poke out the back. It might work with the correct bracket if you swap them around so the speedo is on the left. But that's not the usual way Laverda instruments are. I think all models had the speedo on the right, tacho left.

The installed clocks and support bracket appear to be Honda items, hence the zero knob on the side.
Someone has added the Laverda logo facia to the instruments.
If I'm not mistaken, these are very early Honda clocks as the idiot lights are in the instruments.
Could be worth 'mucho dinero' to the right buyer....

If they're modified Honda clocks, the internal gearing might not be right for Laverdas. If the gearing has been changed for Laverda, they'll be worth less on the Honda market.

I suggest you send them off to Marcel at CB750 Faces in Netherlands. He'll be able to figure out exactly what's going on with them. https://www.cb750faces.com/en/

He could build you a set of clocks suitable for your Laverda on an exchange basis, perhaps re-using your existing faces. Your clocks would definitely be worth something to him in exchange because he could recycle them for other bikes that have the zero knob on the side.

I've not bought clocks from Marcel, but he has a good reputation for quality work.

A few years ago I had a box with 4 smashed up Laverda instruments in it (I didn't smash them, they came in a box of parts with a bike I bought). I sent him some photos of the wreckage and asked if the whole mess was worth $100 to him for parts. He replied and said no, they were worth $200, which he subsequently gave me for them. So in my experience he's an honest dealer.

Yes, that is a good idea. He already restored some gauges for me, the result was very good, just to say something, the faces have a kind of rough texture that originals don't have and in the night, the lights go a bit through it, just to be picky, because the overall result is very good.

I will send him four of them, and maybe he can disccount whatever he finds usefull for him on the other 2 gauges restoration...

Miguel
