Introduction--new Laverda owner and forum member...warning; long first post

congratulations on the find and welcome,
do you have any idea why it was dismantled? or was this purely for cosmetic purposes
ignore all the pundit and turn it into a road legal hipster flat tracker
look very closely at the left side lower gearbox mounting lug, and you will see a stamping, tel us what you find

Gonna be fun! Have to wonder why anyone would strip something down to that degree?? Hopefully not to tart it up and make it really shiny! How many miles on the clock? It might have had a 'real' life - which is rare for many an SFC!
 
I will try to address a few comments/questions.
78 Jota Dave: you bought one anyway an SFC no less and with your bad back.
Yes, I have a daily rider (Multistrada) so I won't be using it as an every day rider. Provided I actually get it put together in my lifetime.
Where R U in Texas?  Lewisville, just north of DFW airport.
I hope your Craigslist SFC purchase is not engine/frame # 17129 See reply to Clem below.

Clem--The frame number is C1 * 17100, engine number is 17100.

It would be nice to have some photos of the bike.
All I have currently are the photos from the listing, which I linked to earlier. That is exactly how it looks...I knocked a little dirt of of some of the pieces, but it's going to be a long road, and quite a while before it is anything worth taking pics of.

While the previous owner says that he disassembled it to restore it (20 years ago) there is enough damage (rashed pipes, broken front m/c, broken glass on speedo, etc.) that I think he actually laid it down at least once, maybe once each side. Fibreglas is all sanded down, don't see any major repairs, so hopefully nothing too bad. Speedo shows 14,xxx miles.

not the chassis or engine numbers, what is stamped on the left lower lug of the gearbox atatchments, its a flat surface to the right of the clutch case with a dirty great big bolt hole in it. one set of stamped letters or maybe two?

Behind/below the clutch, on the engine case above the engine mount hole I see "SFC" where you indicated.
Is that what we are looking for?
 
In picture no 4 there is a bit of sticky paper with " 10 " attached to the inside of the fairing. This could be part of the batching of bodywork - does any of the other bodywork have any sticky bits of paper withe number 10 or other numbers on ?

Stickies with #10:
Several other pieces have the same #10 stickies. Several more have stickies, but too faded to read. One of the side panels has a 15. Nothing on the seat/tail or the tank.

A lot of things, engine as well as chassis.
Diameter of rear wheel and swing arm spindles.

Number of fins on the head.
The crank and rods.
Cams and followers.

A long list. Over 500 different parts references when compared to an SF of the same year.

Can't think of a better way to start a project than from a bunch of boxes; every part checked, cleaned and assembled will provide a real sense of achievement.
Well done on your purchase, you are a lucky man!

P.S. Bit worried about your wife's address 'Rabidwolf'  :LOL:
