Regarding Irish riders (ref Spyder31) does anyone know or recall a guy called Des Shiels (I think) who sprinted a Jota over there getting it down to the mid-elevens over the quarter with quite impressive terminal speeds running up against GSXR`s and the like?
I think he may have known Richard Slater as before each run he would cover up the rev counter and say "Sorry Richard".
What you can`t see you don`t worry about I guess.
 
well the red zone on many Jotas is not in the right place anyway!, yes I remeber the name Des Shiels, but very little else I am sorry to have to say, if you can accurately date it, I would be happy to look in my 100% complete collection of ILOC magazines. I bet (at the time) he wished he could get stronger clutch parts such as Red's Kevlar plates, that was also the failings of the five or so who grassed tracked the triple engine in sidecars (most of them with 80mm bores the naughty boys) max engine capacity was 1000

There was a guy over here in the 70,s David Lennox...I think was his name he had a Jota it was probably the only one in the country back then.... don't know what ever happened to him or the bike....
 
There was a young lad, from Cork way, IIRC, who used to come to the meetings at The Queen's Head in Long Marston in '78. He rode an SFC Electronica, on 'L' plates with his Irish Provisional Licence (they didn't have a 250cc maximum).
 
Its a good place to go Waling from, there version of Boydtown. But the Real Estate is way more expensive.

Yes I`m going by memory here,this was from maybe a couple of articles about him in LVV,early `nineties at a guess but can`t be any more sure than that.It was just the callout to other Irish riders that jogged the memory,and he did get some pretty impressive performances out of what appeared to be a fairly standard looking Jota.
His mention of covering the tacho and saying Sorry Richard may have been a slight joke ,but it seemed to do the trick anyway.

This also reminds me of the time circuit owner Charlie Wilkinson gave Barry Sheene a pillion ride around Cadwell Park circuit on the back of his BMW R75/5 .Sheene said afterwards "It was terrifying-It was valve bounce in every gear".
Looks like Wilkinson wasn`t too worried about rev limits either!

HIC ! "It's my Ireland" and I'm from Canadian Irish decent - Just shows how proud and stubborn the Irish are .

Irish are not Apartheid and any race, creed or religion is welcome; but, for the rest of you in your best interest is to just leave Ireland alone.

Lest you dare challenge to race a Leprechaun riding an Italian Breganzie - If you win - You get your 3 wishes but there are consequences ;o)
