Issue re-fitting sidestand to 1200

I am in the process of re-installing the donk out of my 1200 after a Redax rebuild. All is fine except one small thing which relates to the sidestand engine bolt, which is the extended one supplied with the sidestand kit. This was on the bike before and I don't recall an issue then so I suspect I'm missing something obvious. When I tighten up the footrest bolt (A) the gap between the sidestand plate (B) and the frame is about 5mm wider (C) than the spacer, meaning I cannot tighten the engine mounting bolt (D) without padding out that space, or getting a new wider spacer. You can see it pretty clearly in annotated photo attached. Anyone got any ideas on what I may be doing wrong/what is missing? Ta, Nick

The plate is a one way fit, so cannot be turned over. Glad to see you’re still taking an interest in the Flying Kangaroo 😃.

Yep. The serrations are in the right place. The plate doesn't need to engage the serrations on the frame because the lower bolt stops it rotating. There's nothing to stop the footrest rotating though, so the serrations should face outwards to engage with the footrest. Otherwise, the footrest bolt would have to be done up to a million ft.lbs to stop it swivelling out of position.

Someone was talking about shimming the engine mounts to stop the frame from needing to be crabbed together to close up gaps between the frame and the engine case, I don't know how relevant my comment is to this. I didnt remember my plate having segregations so I went for a look and it doesn't, but it's for a 3C with rear sets so the foot peg on mine isn't bolted to the side stand plate. Mine is just smooth alloy.

Had to add a spacer washer to the new sidestand on the 3cl, not 5 mm, maybe 1mm.
I think we have to look at the kits as sets of parts to be customized to each installation. The likelihood that the offset from the engine mount lug (which must align with the motor width) and the footrest boss (alignment along the thread axis not critical if only supporting the footrest) will be precise and constant across all the years of manufacture is small so, as Marty did with a spacer and I had to do with elongating the plate's hole for the long bolt and adding a spacer, each of us must make adjustments to accommodate the manufacturing differences of the frames - perhaps there was a washer or two in there before?

Yep - I think I must have got some memory loss - I've put it back together with a couple of washers and it seems adequately aligned. Thanks for your responses. And she starts up nicely...now I just have to refit the front sprocket and chain, and bleed the clutch and I'll take her for a spin.

It was me who mentioned the need to shim the engine but we're outside the engine mountings here, so doesn't apply.

If it went on before without spacers or undue stress then it must do the same again, Mine fitted with no dramas, (maybe ten years ago) and several others that I know of, I dont see what you have changed either
