Hi guys, I hope everyone is doing well. It’s been a long while since I visit the forum. It’s great to see members at work contributing to keeping the marque alive.

Since retiring from my longtime career and starting Speedway Vintage Cycles there’s been no time for anything. The days go by so fast and there’s not enough hours in a day to get work done. I traded working 20-25 hours a month for this! “Open a motorcycle shop” they said “you will have lots of fun and will make a lot of money” they said. Well I admit they were right about having lots of fun. Luckily we are staying busy with customer’s bikes on all 7 lifts and the 4 restoration stands. However, I can’t even find the time to scratch my watch or wind my ass. My only regret is not doing this earlier in my life. I’ve had several hurdles and hoops to jump and a few challenging moments. My one biggest challenge which I still struggle with is finding good help. In closing I get to meet a bunch of people and test ride their bikes. Checkout our website at Speedwayvintagecycles.com

Always wanted to start a motorcycle shop after retiring.
However, in my design engineering career I recognise that I take way too long on any project and would never make any money.
My younger brothers were in the trades and get things done real quick, claiming I suffer from analysis paralysis and OCD.
 
It's days like today where everything goes tits up that I think, thank god I don't own the shop. I just play with my spanners, get my pay, and go home. Customer dropped his bike out the front, knocked over 2 other bikes, spent my day trying to find an electrical fault in a new Aprilia toureg 660, looks like I'll be fitting a whole new loom .......

Good for you! I’m glad it’s working out well. I too once changed careers and ran a cycle shop for a few years, doing chassis and suspension on racebikes. My problem was turning something I loved into a job just took all the fun out of it. My hobby/passion became work….

Gday Phil after several hours of tuning she is a gutsy Jota, I think several sets of hands may have tinkered with this engine somewhere back in her past but with compression up near 190 psi per pot the starter sure struggles to spin her over luckily she fires after one revolution.
I will try and post a video !!
