Afternoon all, has anyone had any recent work done to upgrade their front forks, my old Mirage used to be pretty ok but this Jarama hits a bump and one would think your arms are going through your shoulders, I know I'm 20 years older but it's painful. Nice and smooth under hard braking but solid on the road. I have been in touch with Maxton who recommend their SD20 cartridges with rebound in one leg and damping in the other, sounds a bit alien to me but they know more about suspension than I do. Can any of you guys recommend an upgrade you have had done, either Maxton or other, to cure a similar problem they have had, and cured? any suggestions more than welcome. Thanks Steve.

Mine are being worked on by Maxton, at the moment. Once they're back on the bike, I'll report what difference they make.
 
Having rebound in one and compression damping in the other forkleg us quite common nowadays and works very well. That setup is being used in modern racetrack forks like Öhlins as well.
 
I have my 1000 SFC fork modified like that and it works very well. It wasn't done by Maxtons but by a german company called HH-Racing. Took a while, but they work brilliantly!

SD20 cartridges inc custom, pre-load adjustable springs, £570. Installation inc. new fork seals £165. In some cases, there is an extra cost, for modifications, if necessary, £40-100. T260 rear twinshocks, custom crafted. £510, IIRC.
Plus the vodka and tonic, government's got to pay for those parties, somehow.

The first question is what weight oil are you using?

Stiction is your problem IMHO. Before forking (pun intended) out heaps of dosh, check the seals, straightness, and the nylon seals on the damping pistons.
 
I hear this so much, on everything from clutch pull to suspension. Mine is fine so I have no idea what you are talking about. After years of modifying my Cerarins, they are pretty good for my well above-average weight with Race Tech bits but finding the best setting inst easy. If I lived in pommyland Maxton would have mine in a heartbeat. Shipping is a killer price-wise from Oz. It will be interesting to hear how others find their services for fast road work.
