Reg test is straightforward imo - volt meter across the battery - which should at least 13.8 at rest - then crank her - drop to zero would indicate duff cell - start ok voltage should go 15 volts plus then after a minute of so drop back to 14 ( if battery is good ) if it stays at 15 plus and your battery is charged the reg could be boiling the battery - if it doesn’t change voltage from rest it’s buggered the other way
