The three-step dance reminds me of a gadget that I used to use when working as a labourer in my formative years. I was working for the local hydro-electric authority, building an earth-filled dam. Each layer of fill had to be compacted by a vibrating roller. But for corners that the roller couldn't negotiate, the fill had to be compacted manually with pneumatic soil tamping rammers (wacker packers). In order to cover the ground more quickly, some smart dude in the company had bolted 3 wacker packers together in a frame in a triangular formation with a circular handle around the outside about the size of a wagon wheel that a couple of guys would hang onto so they could guide the thing around. It was kinda like a round 3-legged table, but when you opened the compressed air supply, the thing would come to life. Its feet would stomp up and down to compact the ground it was standing on. Having 3 legs, it could actually stand there on its own and bounce around without anyone hanging onto it. It looked fucking hilarious dancing around by itself. We called it Fred Astaire.
