Jota needs new home.

Hi all, Happy new year.
I'm after a bit of guidance from the collective regarding a Jota. The bike belongs to the widow of its first owner. It's a one owner '83 series two with 20K miles. The bike is currently on sorn and located near Oxford. I understand the widow has all the original paperwork and side panel somewhere. The bike was a runner five years ago when its owner died suddenly.
What would be a fair selling price for her? I guess the bike would need extensive work, but as the pics show its all there.

It’s a good question - prices in UK are higher than The EU - it’s a Jota out of the factory originally from 3 Cross possibly This is a series 2 last of the 180 engines Jota if complete should be worth in my opinion circa 10 k - if there is any documentation of work carried out that always helps -
 
Is it the light, or a substantial dent, on the right side of the tank?
Not entirely convinced by the headlight.
200 miles ridden since '07 indicates an exploratory engine strip.
Given that the engine is an unknown quantity, I'd say £8 k would be closer to the mark, as is.
It might be worth getting it up and running prior to sale, it might not.
Caveat emptor.
 
I agree that as a none runner and clearly needing attention it’s probably an £8k bike tops. Even if it was running, it’s a bit tatty so probably not much more than £9.5k. However, as with all these things, there maybe someone out there desperately seeking a genuine Jota and whatever the condition will pay you £10k.
 
Do we know that it is a non runner? If given a quick check, new fuel, oil and plugs and possibly battery, it may fire up. If it does run ok then I would have thought that judging by some of the prices quoted asked for on ebay it might well be worth £10k or a bit more.
Hamish, I think you are correct, the tank does seem to have a dent.

After you've seized the cams and broken a ring doing that, then what? Or maybe not.

And when you've opened the engine, you need a wheel barrow of notes.
Bike has obviously fallen/crashed on the rh side: bent forks and yokes? Cracked frame around the head stock?

That bike is maybe easy to make good, with some luck, or a money pit and a big disillusionment for the buyer or rather the player since it looks more like an evening in a casino than a bike sale.

The bonhams sale in Oxford last month there was 2 jotas, 1x 1978 that went for £17 k and a bit, the second was in the bad Crank bearing numbers and that also went for topside of 17k. Then there was the jarama from France that went for just under 10k. All the above needed a full recommissoning. So who's the fool when it comes to selling there bikes. Best thing is put it in the auction and let the markets decide.

King market will decide.
I try to sell things at what we in France call a motorcyclists price. I sold my bike at what it was worth.
The fools are those putting big money in old decrepit bikes.

Really depends how she intends to dispose of it.Stick it on eBay as it stands?Hard to say what price it might attract,giving it a good clean would help,but any prospective buyer will factor in how much it would cost to get it into decent shape,wether they do it themselves or give it to a specialist to sort out,either way it`s going to put a ceiling on what they are prepared to pay,maybe £10k but that`s pushing it a bit.
It depends if she is willing to spend money getting it sorted,and reap a better return.
I agree tank looks dented,righthand twistgrip also distressed,maybe been down on it`s side,although silencer/footrest/front wheel spindle look ok so maybe not.
 
Thanks for the reply's guys. Yes there is a dent on the tank and yes I think the owner did throw it down the road on the RHS. It seems the consensus is about £8k as is.
 
I should have added that I'll convey your collective thoughts to the owner and she can then decide what she wants to do. If she wants to sell it I'll put the put the photos, and any other info I can get, on the for sale section with her contact details and any prospective purchaser can deal with her direct.
