Hi Team

Having put the engine back together , the only problem I have is that when in gear , the neutral light doesn't go out ..

Is is due to adjustment ??

Is so - how do I adjust the switch in the casing .. ??

Put it in gear and lose the switch ????

Neutral switch is adjusted by shimming.

Otherwise, you'll find that your big toe is an excellent neutral switch. Without lights.

Where are the shims/washers ??

update I have found it in the parts list - so need to drop oil and then switch to check washers ;-)

Before you drop the oil remove the wire off the terminal on the switch put the bike in Neutral then with your multi meter set on ohms check the resistance between the terminal and the engine case, it should be zero.
Then click the bike into gear and do the same test, you should get a full value on your meter telling you that the switch is open if you get these results the issue maybe with the lead running to the switch earthing elsewhere and not through the switch.
I hope thia makes sense.

As Maurice suggests, most probably a short somewhere along the wire.  The switch isn't long enough to be actuated by the selector drum itself.  Besides, if it were that long, slection would seriously jam at the point where the bump bit on the drum sits.

Remove the wire from the switch and see if the light goes out.  Should go on again when grounded.

My brother had a Guzzi 350 and during a tour the oel pressure lamp flashes some time- we put a tape on the lamp and continued our tour..,
no issues after that

TOG has not had a working neutral switch for decades, every time I change the oil I forget to do something with it, cant mean a lot to me can it?

Haven't had one on my bike since it was about 5 years old. If your clutch is set up properly (even with an extended lever) it's easy to flick it into neutral.

Now that my 1200 no longer has a gen light I rely on the neutral light to tell me the ignition is on. The ign switch is fitted down by the oil breather so not in your face. I use a Hi intensity green LED that is in your face.Over the last 35 years I have on a couple of occasions left the ign on only to end up with a flat battery. For thew first 30 years of owning the Motodd I didn't have any idiot lights fitted.

Is that light on constantly Rob? I miss having an ign-on light, now that I've got an ND alternator - that only has two wires coming from it. Not sure how Kawasaki dealt with it, but if I can get a light back I'd be happy, whether it shows when not charging or not. Also been known to leave the ignition on!

No Q the green neutral light goes out when I put in in gear. :D No red ign light since upgrading the alt/ign.

Ah! Gotcha. I thought you were using the green light as an ign-on connected from the battery. Not a bad idea, if you still have the neutral switch in the cases!

I have a better habit of selecting neutral when stopped than I have turning off the ign switch. So a glaring green Hi Intensity led tells me to turn off the ign.
