This is what I did ..used a threaded rod with nuts either side of my new mount tubes to fine tune their position .. used jubilee clips aka hose clamps to hold it in place .. set the outer edges to the position of the originals.

That’s a fair way to do it. Now just stick it all together with hot wire.
