Jota seat catch.

Can anyone tell me, does the metal seat catch that protrudes from the underside of the seat ('76 Jota) unscrew? I've bought a new seat with a fibreglass base that needs hinges and a seat cach fitting. I can get the hinges off the old seat but the catch spike seems welded in. It may be just very tight but I don't want to break anything by twisting it really hard if it's not meant to come out.

I made a carbon seat base for my Motodd, nothing like the original but wanted it to hinge so made hinges and the post I cut off an old rusted seat base, drillerd and tapped a m6 hole in the end and bolted it on. Wouldn't be too hard to make from scratch, I would have if I didn't have an old one. Still working perfectly 8 years later.

Clever but I can't make stuff like that. I've never done any king of metalwork and I don't have any tools for it. I was hoping someone would say there was a ready made solution. I can't be the first person to have bought an aftermarket seat with a plastic base.

I have one of those seat latch prong thingys (I think that's the proper technical term) on my 3CL seat, so I could turn up a bolt-on copy with my lathe. But I'm on the other side of the world so the postage might be more than it's worth. Happy to do it if you can't find anyone closer. There must be a lathe somewhere in UK.

This is what I did. Cut the spiggot from an old seat base
Weld a plate on the base and drilled and tapped. Also the seat latch I made with ally plate

OK, it's simpler than I thought. I haven't actually looked at mine. I thought it had a notch all round like a hose barb.

Just get a bit of round bar or a bolt shank, cut a notch in it and weld it to a bit of plate.

If you want something fancy, draw it up and take it to an engineering shop. How about a motorised actuator to lift the seat?

Yes if you can’t remove the old one or don’t want to cut it off your old seat you are most probably going to have to either fabricate a new one or get one made up for you.
You could search the web and see if there is a bolt on item available on the market,I am guessing the seat is covered so would need fixing from the underside?

That's a kind offer Dellortoman, if I can't get it sorted I may take you up on it but I'm sure I should be able to find a solution closer to home.

I've now been told that the new seat should have come with the catch post, ready to screw straight into the threaded hole provided. But it didn't. So I'm waiting for the suppliers to come up with it. If they can't, I'll return it to them.
