I can only s'pose that that quite of drivel helps sell bikes.  But who to, is quite beyond me ... :-X

(For Laverda's sake ...) Anyone in Oz willing to offer to re-write something informative and accurate for Steve at hazeltons_bikes_online ?  You could do it on a commission basis ... :-*

Nothing wrong with the frame stamping, just had a look at my one owner 80 Jota and it doesn?t have 3cl on the headstock either. Engine and frame number make it an 80 Jota , not 81. Several  things check out apart from the frame stamping so I wouldn?t be bagging it out .😀😀

My 80 Jota came with a fairing Marty, bloody ugly one but a factory fairing none the less. Currently locked up in the shed as I?m not that keen on it😂😂

"Nothing wrong with the frame stamping,"

Bugger, means Maurice and his hammer have been getting it wrong all this time?

79 Jota had no fairing and no lugs for the frame bracket on the headstock. Also stainless front mudguard.
80 Jota had the bulbous sloping fairing and fibreglass shorty front mudguard.
81 Jota had the more angular Futura fairing and painted mild steel front mudguard.
Don't confuse year of registration with year of manufacture, sometimes a year or more out of sync if it lay unpurchased in a shop for a while.
As you say, many folk didn't like either type of fairing and removed them.

as a guess I would say that the engine numbers between the stars were not stamped by Laverda, so there is every chance that new crankcases were supplied and the four digits stamped (not very well) by the installer of same.

I am not 100% convinced of the frame number either, there is a clue that says that the four digits between the stars was not stamped by Moto Laverda, for those that know, and the missing 3CL, but it is very neatly stamped, which is clouding the issue.

You are far better at this dating thing than me Grant, you should be doing the certs. for ILOC.

All very interesting just sitting here with Tom, who is helping empty the fridge  :P and we got to discussing this bike and the comments regarding it. So out I went with my camera and here's something that we prepared earlier.... Aussie delivered 180 1 owner from new with proven providence.
Now where were we

your frame number Brett has a "wonky" third digit and its a "3" and as you say a factory stamping, the clue is not the wonkiness with our ebay pal but another digit between and 0 and 9 that is not in the form used by Moto Laverda, they only stamped the digit's between the stars, Verlichi stamped all the others, and left the actual identifying numbers to Moto Laverda.
