Just crazy!

You need to try living in a place where dozens of unlicensed quads and dirt bikes block streets and stunt on sidewalks and roads. Where kids with no helmets do wheelies in commuter traffic and do stunt shows in the middle of intersections in busy neighborhoods. These machines were not seized simply for being unregistered, but rather for reckless driving and utter disregard for the safety of the people who live in those neighborhoods. Confiscated bikes and ATVs when auctioned off are bought for dimes on the dollar by the same people who just had them taken away and are back on the street. Do you suggest we also imprison the teens and young adults to prevent repeat offenses? With no drivers license to seize and no insurance to financially penalize them how do you suggest this very real problem be dealt with?

Many other countries just been putting them through the crusher for decades, out of sight. Who is going to strip, catalogue and sell all the old parts? All the bike wreckers I have visited have so much virtually unsellable stock that they are drowning in it. A fantastic resource but there are just so many model changes it is hard to keep up with. Many major wreckers get rid of stock that is past a certain age, a brutal but necessary business decision for them.
 
If you watch these youtube vids of hundreds of MX bikes and quads running amuck through city streets in the US with cops virtually helpless to do anything but nab the stragglers it's pretty disturbing. But the worst bit is it guaranty aggressive attention to all bikes by default. The other side of the coin is I also guess that's what happens when the streets are the only place you can ride your Dirtbike.
 
I’m not sure how many of these vehicles are higher quality, competent Japanese dual sport or MX bikes and quads. My suspicion is that most are off-brand Taiwanese and Chinese products sold at the very lowest price and of the lowest quality. In other words, there may not be much demand for them in other places with access to OHV riding areas, plus their former owners probably rode them hard and put ‘em away wet!
