When the shift cover was removed to fix an oil leak this piece dropped onto the floor. It looks like a thrust bearing but doesn't seem to belong inside the shift cover (see pictures).

I haven't been able to find it in the parts fiches. Is whatever it is prone to falling off? Have I found the reason for my clutch problem?
Thanks

DPO dropped it down the cam chain tunnel. Gravity and oil flow swept it back into gearbox chamber.

sounds a likely scenario.... probably spent hours looking for the damn thing  :o

Not necessarily a DPO. Had dealings with more than a few DMMs in my day. Present company excepted.

In the 60's a mate of mine bought a new Triumph Bonneville T120, after 500 miles did an oil change including undoing the bottom crankcase drain plug and pound an oil seal garter spring sticking out !.

A few years ago Steve Ernst from Weely Heath, Essex did a full resto on an almost unused mini scooter, it was a 50, the bike had been dry stored and so was not actually that bad, more surface rusty and dull than neglected, when he opened the extremely low mileage engine he found a pushrod laying in the sump, which just has to have been there since factory building, and it would have only been four nuts to get the top end off!

so Laverda as guilty as well.

Ducati quite often sells new bikes with extra valve keeper rings in the sump. They swim around the bottom like catfish until they find the magnetic sump plug.
