LAVERDA 1000 3C prototype photos from 1969

Sounds like Laverda was a very poorly managed company for spending money on projects that were never going to make a profit.

Figuring out if the V6 could be made as a production bike should have happened long before they even started on the first prototype.

Other than the V6 generating a lot of publicity, it was a complete waste of money. If the FIM had not banned the bike, and further development continued, would it ever have been competitive? A road going version with all the required equipment would have made a really heavy pig of a bike. But those with money would probably not have cared if it did not handle and was heavy, it would just be something to impress your friends. I know people with Ducati desmosedici's who never ride them, it is just to show you have money.

In terms of weight and shaft drive, it could probably have fallen into the Gold(Lead)wing Honda category. I shudder to think what even the race-ready V6 weighed at Bol d'Or.

Hondas ST1100 V4, with shaft drive, was a cop bike in Australia for quite some time. I often thought of it as a Jap version of the V6, just done properly.
