Laverda 1000 Jarama headlight ring issue

Hi Guys
I removed the headlight ring with the lens and installed my new turn signal posts to replace the broken ones.
now the headlight and ring will not fit up to the bucket completely and close flush, I have moved wiring around to accommodate
the H4 plug on the back and still wont close up flush to the bucket. I feel like the retaining clips holding the lens are
keeping the ring from sealing up. the ring fits the bucket great with no lens or clips installed.
I am having fits trying to figure this out.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've been doing this for so many years, I forget that it's an acquired technique!
Fit it from the top, first.
Then, a smart smack with the heel of your hand on the edge of the headlight at four and eight o'clock (as viewed from the front), will seat it correctly.
Until you build up confidence in how hard to smack it, you can assist seating by applying pressure with a pair of snipe-nosed pliers, on the two slots underneath (arrowed below) while you clump it.

But I certainly agree for something you think would be so simple it’s an acquired technique 👍……even worse with a fairing.
 
Thats weird, my headlight for some odd reason likes connecting first at the bottom and then snapping on with hard pushing at 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock. It comes off with a wide-bladed screwdriver levering the crack at 12 o'clock. Just no pushing in the glass or it at the very least moves the reflector clips and that's a pain to get the glass even around.
 
The electrical assess holes from the wiring are at the bottom, who knows what happened in 1975 or since
 
SO my 1977 Jarama has a phillips screw at 6.00 with a clamp that catches the 6.00 edge.
I will try the smack at 4.00 and 7.00 and see what happens.
I tried clipping on the 6.00 first and pushing the 12.00 edge on but it's too tight to clip on.
Also, the turn signal relay12v is loose and looks to be too big for a headlight location.
is there smaller unit that belongs in there?

If you suspect that something inside is blocking it, whip out the clips and take out the lens reflector, try it with just the rim while looking inside. There can be quite a bit of friction between the rim and shell to get it over the little protrusions on the shell, you could try a smidge of grease on the lower ones of them and the clamp thing.
 
Hey Sucess. the 4.00 o'clock 8 o clock palm slam worked and the bottom screw clamp
tightened right up, hopefully all the electrical will work when I install the new DEKA ETX16
AMG Battery.
now new tires and brake flush, next the Del Orto carb rebuilds. by then I should be able to
test ride a bike that has not been run in 30 years.
