What’s the difference, tank filler direction?

early bikes have a three into one throttle cable spliter, later came the fixed crossbar and single cable, hence different underside of tank.

I think the drummers is different underneath due to the three single carbs and the tap outlets are offset.

If I'm not mistaken the early tank doesn't have enough clearance for the carb tops on the later single cable carbs.

I've got an earlier tank: my Orange one, with the forward opening petrol cap on mine, and have no clearance problems.

It isn't all the forward opening cap tanks just the very early ones. The indentations in the tank base are different.

I've got an earlier tank: my Orange one, with the forward opening petrol cap on mine, and have no clearance problems.

That's because it's the other way round - the later tanks have the petcocks at a different position and closer together, so they don't fit on the drummers.
