LAVERDA 1000 V6 prototype photos

Love the use of the common Laverda battery strap to hold the coolers and electronic box!

Did they have a promotion contract with Pirelli for the then-new Mandrake(?) tyre?

Beatiful beast nonetheless, crying shame it didn't work as desired.

A fairly weird combination of tyre choice. If as Piet suggests the front is the Mandrake, which I tend to agree it looks very much like, then fitting an ‘S’ rated tyre, just about suitable for my first 350, on a 170mph rocket ship is just nuts! And combined with a slick on the rear, what were they thinking???

Perhaps just what was left laying around, as is often implied.

Better than having the rim scraping across the concrete I guess... ;)

BTW I assume these are photos of the '77 bike, before the switch to twin shocks, and is one of the bikes now owned by Cor Dees' family.
Nope.

I once questioned Piero on the whereabouts of the prototype, he simply said "you're standing next to it!". The bike he has presented all these years evolved directly from exactly this bike.

After he had finished his V6, Cor told me building the prototype would be his new challenge. Cor built his "prototype" more or less from scratch, using existing parts and making the missing rear suspension components from factory drawings.

Two years ago I saw a picture of a 750 with a V6 seat on facebook. The owner of the bike has the mould to build these seats. This guy build two seats for me.
I will use it for a Laverda/HARRIS magnum 3cilinder project. When I retire I hope I have the time…..
When you are interested, I can sell one. Or bring you in contact. Pm me.

When I get home I obviously need to dig out my V6 book and reacquaint myself with the details of the project. But in the meantime I thought one of Cor’s was built from the remains of the 1991 Milan show bike, which essentially was also a form of prototype?

The development from the 1977 Milan show model until the 1978 Bol d’Or meant that most parts were replaced along the way, which includes the engine. They hardly shared any parts.
The 1991 show bike that was created (in haste) as example for the replicas they planned to build, actually had the 1977 engine, with smaller valves and carbs. When Cor and I opened the engine it had run quite a bit. They clearly put it aside back in (probably early) 1978, to build an engine that had many improvements, and which still is in the ‘Laverda family’ bike today. Many of the other parts, the frame too, of the 1977 bike were put aside which Cor could buy and use for his 1977 bike. Still plenty of parts needed to be made by Cor, but in my view there are too many genuine parts to call it a replica.

The engine in Cor’s 1978 bike was almost completely made by himself.
