LAVERDA 125 Sport - my new toy!

Hi, I am very happy to show you my new toy: LAVERDA 125 Sport picked up at the weekend in Milano. It is frame number LAV.125.*0915*, first registered in April 1970 in Forli/Italy. What could be the year of manufacture?
These 125 were produced from 1965 – 196? as "Trail", "America" and "Sport" versions. For the US and UK market with 150 ccm. All in all about 3000 produced, but only 300 "Sport". Does anybody know more accurate data?

A prototype of the 125 Sport was shown at Milano show in 1965, but it was different from the production version in many aspects. Production commenced in the course of 1966. The Sport was very inconsistent styling wise, the front mudguard looks as if it was meant for a 19 inch tire, and indeed the seat seemed to hang down at the rear, but that’s how they were! The engine was not very strong, and gave the bike a top speed of approx 120 km/h, but with fuel consumption of 40 km per litre it had an action radius of over 400 km!

I am reasonably sure that these 125/150's were never avaialble as consessionair imports to the UK, and (maybe) that the 150 was for USA only and was it realy a 150? Laverda have the habit of "calling" engine sizes to suit marketing, maybe it was a 132 or some such
also interesting is chassis numbers that clearly did not start at 1001.

At least one was officially imported into The Netherlands, it was the ’Trail’ version. Not exactly a big hit..
As far as I know the 150 was for US market only, it was a big bore version.

... this one is frame number *01000* and declared as 1966. So mine *0915* should be also 1966.

And a third engine.

hey Paul with a bit of help from Millyard you could make a V3 of 375cc or 450 or even a 400 (2x125 and 1x150)
