Laverda 200 Engine Number?

If memory serves me correctly, the number is under one of the side covers that incorporate the rubber mounts.  Been a long time since I had one apart.

Thanks Piet, love your 1st answer - I walked into that!
I think you could be right - off to shed to check behind covers and will return with results.

The engine turns over, with good compression.
I got it running after tracking down a failed condesor and broken winding on the generator stator - both fixed.
She started 3rd kick and sounds great - a very Laverda'ish exhaust tone - wait for more silly comments!
Engine noise is only whining of straight gears and so I think I have a good 'un.
Tacho shows 15k

Back to the number - both covers came off (at separate times else engine falls out!) and no numbers on covers or engine cases
Any more ideas?
I don't want to remove clutch and I know they were not behind generator.............

Need them to get UK plate/MOT I think

I haven't come across this with the 200's but I am able to conform that the Chott never did have an engine number,
what has happened in the past, is that the 42 officially UK  imported Chotts (Slater's) had the chassis number duplicated so as to "create" an engine number,
This is what I have done for dating certificates for imported at a later date Chotts and 2TR's, I am not even sure if this is legal, but it is what I have done, .The thing to remember here is that the chassis number is all important, because it is properly referred to as the "VIN" (vehicle identity number) and that is what the registration paperwork and registration plate identify, the engine can be changed multiple times willy nilly without affecting the VIN, it is also possible to get a registration paper with the numbers expressed as "illegible" (in the case of the engine, don't know about VIN) as might be the case with a 1902 Packard I  imagine that is where the flexibility is coming from.

That's very helpful thanks.
Makes sense, as there are no numbers visible on obvious areas an engineer would put them and Laverda were good engineers.
Wish I hadn't taken clutch cover off - oil everywhere and gasket bust........mind you making gaskets is quite enjoyable really :)
Thanks all for comments.
Andrew
