My wife owned a Zephyr 550 in 1998. We raised the rear using the eccentric adjuster (see the image in the Wikipedia article), and replaced the fork springs with progressive units. This had the effect of raising the whole bike evenly, which seemed to work ok.
Also replaced the rear sprocket with a one tooth smaller item, which reduced the snatchiness at low speeds. Sort of counter-intuitive but it did the job.

I dont think those shocks are made by Progressive,they may well be cheap copies, I remember Duff buying them after he got nicked and banned from using the bike until the old ones were replaced, issued with the ticket that stops you using the vehicle until repaired and certified by an MOT station, he got the bent con rod for that, honestly, the Anni was riding along like a rear end pogo stick, zero damping and probably zero oil, but he just hated anything that stopped him riding it when he wanted to, he was passing on foot a shop in surrey and saw the shocks in a shrink wrap in the window display, he bought them because the eye to eye dimension was right, and they were cheap, little else he cared about not much.

Yes I got the enforcement ticket, dated 05.09.2014, in amongst the paperwork, relating to when he was stopped on the Westway in London - apparently the Police decided that the rear suspension was "solid" (Which I'm sure it was!!). The shock absorber receipt, dated 10/09/2014, was for a pair of Progressive 12-Series dampers, with black springs - which look fairly genuine - (but I've not ridden the bike yet, to see how they perform)!

Does anyone have photos of Duff on/with the bike??
