Laverda 3CL Service

Hi all,
I'm a newbie to the Laverda world and finding it very difficult to obtain much information.
Basically I have 2 Laverda 3CL's that I am looking to fully restore. But would love to just give them a major service and get them going first.
Where is the best place to find listing's of all service parts etc?
Located: Western Australia

Italbrit Classic Motorcycles are in Western Australia.

There isnt a lot that needs buying realy, carb clean and balance. check ignition timimg (TDC static and 32 degrees BTDC (if stock ignition) at 2500rpm or above) and plugs (replace with NGK 9's which is a good fit all for stock motors)
check valve clearances (8 thou inlet 10 thou exhaust) shim changes are required if they are out more than 1 thou either side, which is a cams off job. The rubber seal under the cam box can usually go again a few times. clean oil of course (it does engine and gearbox) any named brand of detergent 20/50 is good, probably unamed as well, and the air filter, depends what you have fitted as to how you deal with it, plenty have an empty box. check and adjust timing chain (about 8mm up and own when cold) and primary chain (adjuster turned in by hand until very light resistance felt and then back out 3/4 of a turn) That deals with the engine, then there is external stuff like chains and sprockets, an important grease nipple under the swing arm, tyres, head stock, brake pads etc etc
good luck with your first Laverda's do it well and you wont be doing it again for a year at least.

The above wont solve any problems with them you might currently have. (generally)

You have 2 to restore?! Well frankly, depending on their condition, mileage etc, i'd be doing some costings. These are 40 yr old bikes...I'd want to know when and who last rebuilt the engine. If it hasnt been done , it may well be time for it. Budget £5k here...and a wait.

FWIW, Clem, in Australia B8ES is all i would install, 9 will work better for cold crank starts, though may or may not create a problem in 40C+ climate, have ridden in 47C+ days, at velocity.

Reino, would suggest you have direct input from regarded Laverda person, in person or close by, BEFORE attempting to start the engines, clean carbies for one, though on the list at number one is, upper valve train oil feed to all six cam block orifices, plugs out, ignition disabled or shorted to engine spark plug leads, healthy battery ( SSB HVT1 i use ) oil in crankcase, run for 20-30 second bursts until verified all six ports are feeding oil.

Lengthy list after that, though patience will be the order of the day(s). Hope the Laverda meet your needs, and desires in one....j

Yeah, I completely understand the time, money, etc. I am a mechanic and panel beater myself. Unfortunately history on the bikes isn't possible for this situation as I received the bikes as an inheritance and no one seems to know much in regards to them. About all I know is that one of them was running and being ridden about 5 years ago.

Thanks for the reply. Yes for sure I will be I'm touch with someone before I get them going. Would really like to just get one rideable so I can have the odd cruise and keep motivation up whilst I'm restoring the other.
