I have removed the starter motor to strip and clean inside. On removing it The drive shaft appears to show excess wear, the spines are worn to 50% of what I would have expected.
I'm not sure what I can do about it apart from carry on and clean, it's not as if I have another.
If it is wear, than I will just have to keep an eye out for a replacement, not that that is likely to be anytime soon

Oddly enough, there is one available on eBay from Italy, Bosch starter 0 001 160 150. I wasn't intending to spend a load of cash, just clean my starter.
It's listed as for Moto Guzzi or Benelli fitment, the end cap that fits on to the crankcase is different, but presumably the rest of the starter is the same, same amount of spines on the drive.
So if I was to use the end bracket off my starter it will fit?
Any reason that this might not be so?

It’s in Australia but $750 Aus is £385 UK. PLUS POSTAGE. If it fits the 668 it should fit the 500.

The DAM prices are excellent, but the postage prices from Oz to the UK are  . If you're going to buy one item, you'd best examine your 'parts wanted' list and add anything else required to the order.

There's duty and vat on top, that's going to be seriously expensive... none of the usual sources in the UK have them? Thorne Engineering, Ged Shorten, Grant Duguid, Motalia or a refurb from Phil Todd if he still does it? Maybe place a wanted ad in this forum or the ILOC one?
