Laverda 650 Kevlar

Hi all, I have just bought a very early Laverda 650 Kevlar bike. It came with no reg plate and KM speedo and there is no reg if you HPI the chassis number. Bike also has no keys as sat for 13 or 14 years. Low miles at 8,000 km. Managed to get it turning over but no fuel pump noise. There are a couple of the relays missing under the seat. I am looking to see if there is an electrical schematic for them and also to see where i could get some new relays for the bike. I worked on the bikes as a mechanic when they were new up in Scotland in Scotbike  in Glasgow so was curious to see if this was one from then. Bike was only 5 minutes away and cheap so worth a go to get going and on the road even though the DVLA hassles I am sure will be monumental!
Thanks, Alasdair

That should be really interesting.  They are actually easy to fix - unless your big ends are shot...

ILOC are currently working on producing an A3 plastic covered wiring diagram, which I think you could find very useful.  Speak to regalia Ted at Iloc

Have fun.

Ps.  Fused relays available from Ducati shops.  996 SPS iirc

That was sometime mid 1994, the first were built using parts from before the Zanini collapse in 1992. Mine has frame number 1102.

Good luck with it, please post lots of pics as you go.

I know there's a couple of the later 750s local to you (a strike in Falkirk & a Formula in Bo'ness) but haven't seen a 650 or 668 round these parts for years

Scotbike, now there's a blast from the past

Hi Bob, it's 24 years since I worked there, I always seemed to get the 4 650s that they had sold on my bench. There was a heck of a lot of recalls and mods to do on them. Three Cross were the importers back then for the bikes. Looking at the bike yesterday, it is amazing what comes back to you over the years!

Hi,

Looks like a real early one too, the pre Zane build engine has better casting I think Marnix knows about this...

How are you getting on with it? Do you have it running?

We've just recommissioned a Kevlar bike. The tank/frame/fuel pump system is different on this than on most other 650/668s. We had a plugged fuel pump filter and had to remove most of the rear end of the bike to replace it. Much of what you'll find online will have been "tweaked" by Laverda for the Kevlar version so be careful if you're following electrical diagrams or layouts!

Good luck!

Hi!

How did you get on with the 650 Sport? Do you still have it?

Alistair

Hi!

Happy New Year! How did you get on with the rebuild of your Zane? Any progress?

Regards

Alistair

if the reg number cannot be re-loacted then it shouldnt be too hard to register, join ILOC and I do the dating cert and advice for free, dont join and I can still do it, but there is a fee payable to ILOC, so you might as well join and get a years worth of magazines, even if you dont renew at the end of the first year, check any paperwork that you got with the bike for the reg number, check to see if there are any old tax discs, these also show the number, I even got a number from a warranty provider on one occassion, just gave them the chassis number as the bike showed their sticker, try very hard to find the number, photos even, although most never snap the rear end out look, MID (motor insurance database) is another, open to anyone now, with that number its a simple case of filling a V62 and paying a small fee, it might still be £25.
