Laverda 75cc / 100cc Help

Hello all,

I have a 1954 75cc Laverda Turismo and was wondering if you could assist me.  My kickstart return spring has either slipped or broken.  I can't seem to remove the side cover to inspect.  I feels like the spring is holding the cover on, maybe onto the shaft?  Has anyone had this cover off?  Do you know how to remove?  I assume it's the same as the 100cc as well.

I'd kill for a parts diagram right now.

Thanks so much,

Will

The return spring is just behind the kick starter lever ands resides outside of the left engine cover. It's common for either the spring to lose tension or for the ends of the spring to break of where the locate into the cover and the lever. If you want to remove the cover for other reasons there is an alignment piece (circular, about 12mm wide and 5 or 6 mm deep) that lives on the engine where the kick starter shaft goes through and the cover usually has attached itself to this. Usually steady gentle persuasion works.

Tom, Thank you so much for your reply.  Upon further inspection, the end of the kickstart shaft was a bit galled which was preventing the bush from sliding over it.  After smoothing the end of the shaft with a file, the bush came off easily and, as I had feared, the kickstart spring came out in two pieces.

Does anyone know where I can locate a replacement spring?

Also, the oil seal behind the contact points is dried and cracked, letting oil into the chamber and fouling the points.  Does anyone know where I can find a replacement?  It's stamped 14 x 30 x 7.

Much appreciated!

Will

Will, I was idly searching on subito.it earlier today and somebody was selling a ton of Laverda 200 parts, I'd take a look there. I think I saw a kickstart shaft. Might have to buy the whole shaft, or you can order one from the factory ::).
Mind you, getting subito sellers to actually sell their stuff is also pretty tricky. Good luck, though.
And without even looking up seal catalogues, I did a quick Google for the oil seal size, seems like a standard size from the number of hits I got. Your local bearing supplier should be able to get one for you, or I saw Amazon offering it, just use a Google supplier.

Will, PM me a shopping list. I'm planning on going to Breganze for the 13/14 July event and I should be able to scrape up something while I'm there if you don't find what you need beforehand.

Thanks so much Ken and Tom!  I spent half the afternoon on Subtio sourcing parts for this and other projects.  Waiting to hear back.  Also, a gentleman named Wolfgang who does Columbia Car and Cycle is helping me with parts as well.  He's been great, and may even have a spring for me.

Tom, I will not hesitate to get in touch with a parts list for the summer.  That's very generous of you to offer!

Best to everyone,

Will
