Hi thanks for accepting me into the forum. The present projects are a 350 and 500 Alpino. Both from 1978 and in need of TLC. Mainly for the 500 as it appears in the past to have dropped an exhaust valve.... Not pretty.... The strip down now starts to see what is required to get them both back up and running.

I guess you bought the two ex Spanish bikes that had been up for sale for a while? I‘d been tempted but still have too many other project bikes.
if you need bits I have some for both 500 and 350.

You are correct, I was looking for a project after completing my Japanese import Gilera Saturno, The 350 Alpino is virtually all there and the engine is in good condition and appears to have covered a minimal 5000 km. The 500 will be a long term project. I may need a cylinder head if the existing cannot be saved. Am I correct in thinking the Brembo brake calipers are the same design as a Guzzi V50 for which there are many more spares available. Just making a list of what is needed - its a long list....... Is there a source anywhere for silencers for the Alpinos?

I did near 100 000 km on my Saturno bought new in 91.
Unfortunately incinerated back in 2016. Nice modern single.

That is a real shame as they did not make that many ! Was it a 500 or the 350? the only real weak point seems to be the water pump seals, oh and the side stand falling off! - other than that really well designed
They made 3000. 2000 went to Japan. My side stand mounting plate sheared. And the head gasket let go very early on, otherwise no problems in ten years of regular near daily use, commuting and touring.

500 cylinder heads are in pretty short supply. It might be worth thinking about fitting a 668 engine as slightly easier to obtain parts.
Silencers shouldn’t be a problem as quite a few people took them off when they converted their Alpino into a Montjuic lookalike And have them on a shelf at the back of the garage. Otherwise, you can obtain new ones from Italy.
I have a complete used Montydon‘s stainless system that is currently surplus to requirement. It is a bit noisier than standard though.
