Uneven lining wear on shoes that are (most probably) 55+ years old shouldn't even be considered, they need to be replaced to ensure a minimum of safety and peace of mind.

The aftermarket shoes that are available, sometimes, can't really be recommended. The linings are rather thin to start with and by the time they finally wear to the point where they fully contact the drum (during which the brake only performs to about 30-50% of its potential), the lever geometry is completely out the window, further contributing to the "crap Laverda brakes" myth.

The Laverda drum brake is actually a very good performer, if set up correctly. ALL slop needs to be removed from all the moving bits, of which there are many more than in a convential 2LS drum, the linings replaced with suitable material and machined to the actual drum diametre.

There's far more to it than cleaning up old brake shoes, or chucking in a new set...

BTW, new lining thickness is a tad over 6mm, providing the drum isn't worn to buggery and is, ideally, actually round and without taper. This allows optimal lever adjustments that result in a reliable, powerful brake.

I had 8 shoes relined in Sheffield to a very high standard. They used a soft ( I chose) Ferodo material. Blasted and lacquered the aluminium shoes and I've done around 12k miles on them.

They need the drum diameter and from that they work out the lining thickness.

At least from there, you can get your new shoes profiled to match the brake drum and have control over what material is being used Which is critical.

There's many companies out there, I dealt with the owner, he knew his business

All done via parcels.
