Hi just bought a year 2000 ghost last weekend great looking bike but i am rely surprised how rough the engine runs , its hunting and just a feeling of not running smoothly . A mechanic friend of mine will take a look for me but he said its a laverda there all like that .
Is he right to say this ? Any comments would be greatly appreciated

No he is not right, in fact in my opinion he is a complete tosser for passing a comment like that! Not all motorcycles are the same, some are undoubtedly better than others and the Zane's do have their problems, but to discard a machine with that attitude! take it too someone who isn't so stupidly biased!

Thanks for the reply spider, your probable right he does have a obsession for ducatis and he did wounder why i had a desire to buy a laverda ... they just  don't understand!

Well, the Ducati mechanic was partly correct.  Eventually, all Zane Lavs sound and run like that, no engine runs smooth with knackered big ends! :D

Ducati mechanics have lots more experience with such phenomena... ::)

I would like to think that your friend being a Ducati mechanic can tell the difference between crankshaft issues and intake issues. I would assume that the injectors are out of sync or something like that - something that is an intake or ignition box issue.

"Laverda's; they're all like that" is a BUNCH of CRAP.
