Laverda gray

I'm thinking about painting my SF1. Looking at JLO's paint list I see a listing for RAL 7040 Fenstergrau Lechler used on 350, 500, 750SF and 1000 models. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of a Laverda in this color and I don't have any photos of such in my collection. Does anyone have a photo of one of these bikes? I'm actually leaning toward one of the greens, but I'm curious about the gray, or maybe a two-tone scheme.

Hello!

I will use this already opened thread, about laverda gray color.
I already took the bike apart, and bring the parts to the painter will sandblast the frame and tyres - rims and than repaint them.

As you see, i will not make it genuine, because... I don't like original mirage green-gray color.  And for sure I wont never sell the bike. Sadly even engine is colored mat black, so... is all f...ed up.

painter will powder coat the frame and manually repaint the rims. I want to make frame and rims in laverda gray color. The bike will be again black as it was before. Just instead of red rims and body lines, there will be gray. and seat will be black, (Tony from Australia). So two(shiny black and gray) colors and chrome.

So.. painter said, that powder coated gray looks quite.. stock,, like primer... Dont really understand him. Can someone suggest me in which color, possibly laverda-gray color to choose for rims and frame.  I searched here and i found that jota silver frame is Ral 9006 Weibaluminium. Is this true?  same color for the rims??

here some examples how black mirage looks like
Mine now(before):

I will apreciate every suggestion. thanks

The black exhaust makes a big difference to the black bike, third picture down but if they're not chromed then a matt black finish will start to look tatty fairly soon. Remember the Harris matt black short silence pipes in the mid 80's? I had a set on a 1982 GPz550 and they went tatty and scrathes rusty way too fast.

Does anybody have some clear picture, how ral 9006 white aluminium looks like powdercoated? Is shining?

Tried powdercoating in silver 3 times, the last time they swore they had got in some in RAL 9006. Didn't matter, they all looked grey and dull, I ended up getting Upol cans made up with RAL 9006 base coat and sprayed the thing myself then gave it a couple of coats of 2 pack clear gloss. Did frame and wheels the same colour.

exactly that my painter said,, that he dont suggest me to powdercoat in gray, because the color don't looks nice.. Like raw.. not shiny... even showed me some Lambreta rim.. and have to admit that i didnt liked the color.

2 tone in Red Mark Austins 120. I think there were Red Green and another maybe orange but not sure.

That looks really nice.
Can you enlight me what means " 2K gloss clear top coat" ? is this some special finish?  I have seen couple of powdercoated silvers now , and dont realy like it..
I'm thinking that maybe is better to sandblast, put primer and manualy repaint the frame.. to some nicer silver gray color.
I like this one.. maybe is owner here in. so i apologize in advance to share his photos

tough decision

That colour is RAL 9006 White aluminium. 2K is a 2 pack paint - a mix of the colour (in this case clear) and a hardener. So the base colour is sprayed on first and then the clear coat painted over. I used the previous powder coat crap grey as the undercoat, just scuffed it so the paint would bond.

I will never buy another powder coated frame, or powder coat a frame.

On New years day this year I was up at a mates workshop to sandblast 2 frames. A painted 3CL frame and a powder coated Guzzi LMII frame. I have no idea of the capacity of the blaster, but it had a 70hp diesel engine running the compressor, a 2" air hose and a blast nozzle that took 2 hands to hold. ( not to forget the helmet that was hooked to another compressor...)

I had to saddle the 3cl frame to a pallet so that it didn't blow away, and it took me about 15 minutes.

The Guzzi frame had been powder coated about 20 years ago, and moisture had got in under the coat and caused rust that made the powder coat crack. It took me a good 2 hours to blast that frame.

I still have small pieces here at home that I didn't do that day, and my cabinet, at 130 psi, doesn't even touch it.

I'd rather just use paint that is easy to get off, rub back etc, and touch up.

No more powder coating for me...anyway, it's not original...

Regards

Whoever powdercoted that frame should be shot! An anti-corrosion coating should be appled to the frame first before commencing.

The powdercoated frame of my 3C is still just about spotless after almost 25 years of use.  Granted, there are small stone chips on the lower downtubes and the stand cross-bar is stripped almost to the bare metal, but that's it!  I'd do it again and again... matter of fact, I have!  GTL and 100 Tourismo frames are coated too, both still in excellent condition.
