Laverdas bomb at Bonham's Stafford auction

I know the buyer of the AE, he’s very happy.
I looked at the bike at Stafford and it is a very nice original bike. The engine has since been run up and the new owner said it was mechanically quiet and likely low mileage.
The Seller pocketed less than £3k. It’s a buyer‘s market in the UK and no doubt globally.
Now that they are next to worthless, it’s better to ride them than fuss over prospective values.

Cheering over the “worthlessness” of the Laverda marque seems to me to be ‘self harming’ and kinda weird.
I will say that the black with gold trim machine seems not stock in some areas. The gauge and lighting dash seems to be from a 120 Jota, non stock seat, etc. stock machines almost always do better in a sale.

A mate of mine is looking to buy, he sent me the ad for the black one…. I remarked “Bitsa”

Bitsa is a good term to use in this case. Engine .# 7900 area seems to me to be early months of 1981, a full year before the 120 Jota package arrived. And the paint package, were they painted that way at all with the series 2 180 Jotas?

Last of the 180° triples.

Apart from the ghastly paint scheme and a few unnecessary adornments, the bike is actually quite stock. Rear indicators and sidepanels would be the main glitches. Worse bikes have been praised here...

I don't see how making the bikes we love, want and sometimes buy cheaper can be bad news.
The only problem is that we'll be seeing the birth of the bobber orange Jota, but why not.

I think that those who consider low prices bad news, should consider persian rugs or designer furniture but not contraptions that wear, break down, blow up, get mangled by idiots in cars on their smartphone or setting their satnav, or worse, horror of horrors GET DIRTY.

What's your problem? Anybody wanting their objects of desire to be more expensive has a serious problem.

What a bizarre conversation ...

I wouldnt mind an SFC 750..how low will you go?😉. I wonder what the few Laverda specialist engineers left think about it...will folk splash more cash than a bike is worth for an engine rebuild? Or leave it at the back of the garage? Its a double eged sword. I dont feel comfortable with our bikes being held in low regard as it is ,compared with say Ducati 900ss.But from what I read eg in the November Classic Bike mag, its not just Laverdas, its a function of folk having less cash , high mortgage rates etc.Mind you, the estimate for a Brough 1938 at an auction on Nov 12 is £240..260 k...whats that about?!

Of course people will splash out more than a bike is worth to run and repair it.
That's how it's been for years.
It costs as much to paint and chrome a BSA Bantam or a moped as it does a Laverda triple, and yet people restore them putting more money in paint and chrome than the whole machine is worth.
Restoring, riding and maintaining old metal costs a fortune and unless you're riding a Brough Superior, that old metal will cost you far more than its resale value.
I've restored a few, I have first hand experience.
Get real.

As for my SFC, if sold it'll sell at market value. It isn't I who decides the price.

Get real? Ok, how much did it cost you to restore the uninsured SFC?

€25 000. I probably wouldn't have restored it if at the time, it was worth less. If tomorrow it's worth less, I won't be taking it with me anyway.
What's the point you're trying to make?
Old bikes are a wealthy mans pastime mostly. One can only be pleased that with prices going down, at least their purchase is cheaper.

Its going to bring tears to your eyes taking market value above what you thinkit is worth, as does your approach to values to mine😂😂😂

After buying my substandard RGS for £12375 unseen after it was hyped and talked up by Ruffdiamond and Cox, ( Cox told me it had done low 30k miles and I've found out it's done well over 100k) I have been burned....in forty years of biking I have never lost £5k on selling a bike so I'm improving mine putting right all the issues and am going to enjoy it.

Life is for the experience, it's short and there's no pockets in a shroud...

For the record Malcolm Cox went off on one big style when I merely told him I was rectifying the reacted paint job, I've been blocked by him on FB and Messenger ...on the ILOC forum I've been reprimanded for mentioning this and my makeover post edited without my consent...

It does make you wonder about some in the Laverda world...

Hi Shuggie, sorry to hear about your recent issues i really cant comment on your issues. But knowing Adam (sir Sydney) he is one of the good guys , has helped me in the past and would never knowingly be party to under hand dealings. I have never had a problem with Mal either. Hope you reach resolution
