Leaking fork

Over the winter my 1981 Jota has leaked oil from the lower drain plug on one of the forks, I was going to drain the remainder from both forks and refill, any other suggestions? I am doing this in a very cramped storage unit due to home construction.

As Paul said. but always anneal copper washers before installation, whether re-using an existing one or installing a new one.

The process of stamping new washers out of a sheet means they have a certain amount of work-hardening. It's not safe to assume they were annealed in the factory before shipping out to distributors.

'81 bike would have a Marzocchi fork. These have an o-ring to seal the drain plug...

Hi all,
Can anyone who has replaced these O rings confirm the size? Guessing it’s OD-42mm CS-2.5mm
Is there a marzo/bmw part number ?
Also, same for the 2 little o rings under the damper adjust on the right fork leg?
Would similar sized viton seals do? Probably cheaper and available!
Cheers,
Stuart

?

Original Forks didn't have any form of adjustment. Best to confirm what you have before loooking for parts/solutions...

Why should there be a BMW part#? Laverda never used any forks that were also fitted to Beemers.

apologies, getting wires crossed and talking crap as usual,
I have my (SFC 1000) M1R forks in bits and while changing the fork seals, I was looking at the seals inside the slider in the right hand fork leg,
there seems to be a few versions with slightly different parts diagrams,
I assumed that the O ring mentioned above was one of the the internal ones at the bottom of the stantion,
its about 42mm OD, but it probably aint!

Hi all,
It looks like I misunderstand this post,
I saw that the OP had leaking oil and didn’t realise it was referring to the m6 drain screw, I saw Piet said marzo have on o ring and assumed it meant the same 2x internal o rings I have been looking at replacing, see image, these are from right fork leg-M1R , and I can’t see the bigger of the 2 o rings on parts list, hence my question, sorry about that!
