Let's talk handlebar position

Depends how you're built and physical condition to as where a rider position bars and rear sets.

Age bears a factor.

Not saying a Hi-Handle Bar rider can't handle a ride better then one with clip on's.

I found, I tend to damage gas tanks with lower over extended bars so; I look for an an intermediate zone and how I clock the tree.

You will surprised just how well straight up Motorcyclists ride.

I'm rather light long and lengthy so my bars are rather low with rear sets aft.

35 years ago, I found that I could not set the  handlebars into a position that suited me, made worse by a gammy right elbow with movement restricted by 50%.I did like the look of the Jota bars and it was correct for a 1200 TS, so I removed the handlebar fairing a made my own set, mimicking the originals (Ok then easy to cut and mitre!) but set where I wanted them, the RHS is lower and more steeply raked but that is because of the elbow. I then chopped the ears off the fairing (but not before a mate made me a mould of the untouched item) so as to give me clearance for the grips and my hands etc, junked the crap Vittalonis and fitted Kwak items to the bosses on the master cylinders, Pix below.

Interesting history there Clem, looking at it most people would simply think the bike had been thrown down the road at some point... :o :o

well your not wrong there Andy, she has certainly been down the road and track a few times, the last being in Switzerland (Basle) in 2000, but what (almost) saved the bike from damage was a pair of soft throw over panniers and the fairing, the only breakage was the RHS mirror and the alternator cover, not even the brake lever damaged, the RHS exhaust came unplugged, but at a local hotel I put that right and when in Breganze the following day, Ricardo Oro had stayed open for the Sat and Sun due to a large gathering of the Amicale and on the Sunday he replaced the alternator cover (both screws snapped off) fixed a minor cam cover leek, gave the bike a service for me ( a recent rebuild demanded a head torque and tappet/carb/ignition check) and took hardly any money, although a bit scratched on the fairing, and the exhaust can, she did run very nice after that, My injured right leg did however take a month to get right, and the trip home from Breganze was done in three hits, stopping somewhere in France and then again at my sisters, also in France. Quite a painful ride home, and something that I have done four times in a single day.Starngely I don't remember being in pain on the ride from Basle to breganze !! two days before!!
