Letterbox seat foam

I need to invent some decent seat foam for my (elongated) SFC seat, then either sew my own cover or have a pro do it for me. I have tired finding small quantity latex, but virtually impossible to source these days. Clarke Rubber used to sell it in custom cut sizes. Might have to look at hi density composite foam.

When you say letterbox seat, I thought that was the SFC type with the locking flap?
 
Thought the letterbox seat was on the SF series with locking lid. The SFC never came with locking flap, just a crappy latch. Well mine did. As for foam, you can buy poly urethane in 2 parts with different densities. You'll need a mold for the shape which leaves a skin type finish or pour it into a box then carve the shape you want.

You are right, Rob. Totally confusing the single seat types. I like the sound of the polyurethane - have you ever used it? Is it a foam + catalyst thing? Carving foam can be easy or a pain the the arse, depending on type - electric knives work well on some.
 
Didn't actually cast the foam but I did make the molds for some seat cushions for a Star Wars movie I worked on.
We had a molding department that did all the castings from the original stuff the model makers made.
I did watch the process, 2 parts poured into the closed mold. The more you poured in the denser it became.
The beauty of a mold is the surface has a skin to it and it's the finished shape. Was planing on doing it for the Motodd seat but I ended up cutting down the original foam from a laverda seat. Electric carving knives work well, have done lots of shaping of various foams using them.
 
I'm not sure if this helps but moulding polyurathane (2 pack foam) is relatively easy and can be done just by enclosing in (virtually) any plastic, although polyethylene is best and then final shape with a rasp just like you would a surf-board .. similarly 'glass' where needed
as to foams .. I've found yoga mats are just about right (the ~ 3mm versions cut into appropriate sizes / strips) with a softer foam to finish it off

I hear that the main cause for mail going undelivered is bad letterbox design, and not the miss labelling of said letters……

That's what I have always referred to those seats. I wasn't going to question Maurice as he knows way more about Laverdas than I do..

Me too, but I got into strife when I put a few crackers in my neighbors back pocket when his back was turned.

And Cosi, are those letterboxes for the envelopes the bloke you know makes?

Used the online contact us form for a foam joint today and got a call back!! Really helpful guy, suggested two varieties of HD foam, commonly used in moto seats. they'll cut the rectangles to my required sizes (SFC solo and SF double seats) and I can carve. Can also add a layer of lower density to custom comfort the things.
 
For the Rivet Counters there's no such thing as a Letter Box Seat on a 3Cyl Breganzie as they were only optional on the 70/71 750 SF0's.

Not saying you can't do a little modification and mount a 750 SF0 Letter Box seat to a Breganzie 3 Cyl - Personally I really like that saddle ;o)

Jim a 70/71 Italian production model could very be registered as a 72/73 or later in Canada.

Either way the letter Box Seat was an OPTION order when purchasing.
The bike came with the STD 2 Seat (Usually dissembled in a crate to a dealer) along with the optional Letter Box Single saddle.

I would say the Production Model Year of a Breganzie 750SF never matched the Canadian Year Registration of the bike.

Canadian registered 1974 but probably an Braganzie 71/72 into early 73 production SF ;o)

You can verify the production year of your SF with your serial# - NOT the Canadian Registration Year.

Hell my Bregaqnzie 750 SF0 was build in Italy in 1970 and eventually registered new as a 73SF in Canada - Not even close to the date of production or even resembling a Breganzie 73SF.

Long story why this happened - other then the SF was NEVER shipped to Canada as a complete product but rather it came in boxes dissembled as PARTS. Even to the new owner of my 70 SF0 she is registered as a 73 in Canada but by European STD's she's a 1970.

One thing I do know in that parts box the motor was mounted to the frame - All the rest, you or the dealer had to assemble her and then pass a mechanical then register her.

Assembled with registration a 70/72 SF dealers were asking $3,300 CDN back then when you could buy a Honda 750 for $1,100 or a KZ900 for $1,000. But I wanted that bike and waited a year when all the European dealers went under to the Japanese and I bought her assembled for $1,600. What a deal, a ride that can beat a Ducati 750S, MV Agusta 750S or a KZ 1000 ;o)

Don't remind me about the $900 starter fiasco ;o(

My Buddy bought a shaft drive 71 BMW 750S for $2,100 around the same time - Really a fast sweet 2 Up Ride. SMOOTH. Built for toruing ;o)
