Can anyone out there tell me how to go about finding a new key for the steering lock on a 180 triple?
Same problem with the seat lock.

Regards from the cold & snow near Cologne

(in German as it gave more search results)

Steve, OCT is also in the snow and cold near Cologne. They have all of the stuff you need. Somewhere in the tips and tricks section there should be a list of where to go for parts.

Thanks guys!

TinTin,

Thanks! Problem is I don't know what it looks like inside, , may have to drill the bugger out to get dimensions. Stein-Dinse are quite good, I got new brembos from them at a reasonable price.
I wil have to give OCT a call - if the telephone line hasn't frozen

The Nieman locks come in a standard size. I bought mine from a Honda shop.
If you search on this forum you will find the way to drill them out.

For most of what you need to know for drilling out please read this old post:

As said, these Nieman locks are all over the place. I got my new one from Wolfgang Haerter in Canada (see suppliers section on main menu for details).

The original Laverdapedia material on how to remove the lock has gone walkies somewhere, but the main essance is that the front hinged cover has to be removed first to allow lock removal.
The little cover is held in place with a rivet that can be carefully levered out with a screwdriver - it is only a medium friction fit in a hole.

Steve, I needed a new seat lock key for an RGS when I was in Australia, so I went to the local automotive locksmith, gave him the numbers off all the locks on the bike, and got a complete set of new keys for ignition, steering lock, and seat. In Germany, looking for keys for German standard locks, I suspect you should have the same sort of success.
Not the case in North America, though, it's new locks ordered from Wolfgang if you really want to be able to lock up. I'd like to say nobody's going to steal a Laverda, but looking at the cost of parts on eBay, I'm not so sure any more :(

Are they not different lengths? from what I understand, and I may well be wrong, the shorter length required by the Laverdas is no longer available and those that are available will need to be cut shorter and have the flat section of the pin extended.

The lock I bought from one of the scooter shops is certainly too long for the 3CL at any rate.

P.S. lock removal instructions and photo's here http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/lock/index.htm

Well one for a CB750 fits right in.

Email from Wolfgang:-

"HI david the neiman lock needs shortening and side flat spotsextended  , Unfortunatly neiman has completly discontinued  steering locks and only one type is left from new old stock > hope we can find some other locks for the future . YOUR is a good neiman orignalk when fitted it should last forever  .
I guess ther was no lock  business anymore due to the more  modern ignition locks wich have sterering lock inbuilt .
Unfortunatly very new year makes it more difficult to keep original parts on hand .
ciao wolfgang"

If you can see a number on it then it is a peice of cake..any decent locksmith will have program which they will be able to cross reference to find the "cuts" for the key and bobs your uncle.

If not then they are not that hard to pick the lock and remove it.. then could make a new key for it.

Or you could drill yours out and buy a new lock and key.

This is exactly what I needed to do with the one I received from Stemmlar. Cut 6mm from the end, extend the flat section by 6mm and remove (you guessed it, 6mm) from the tang. Very easy to do with minimal tools. All installed and working now.

I followed A14s advice and whilst his welder braced the frame he also ground off the lock holder and welded it up.Useless things Neimans anyway IMHO
