Looking for an Australian SF1

Laverda Bomber

Hero member
Hi gang,
Long time no been here.
My brother bought an orange SF1 (single seat/drum brake) new back in the day from Stanco in Melbourne.
After owning it for 4-5 years he sold it to my sister and brother in law here in Tassie.
They took it to Alice Springs and at some point put a chair on it and rode back to Tassie with their red healer and all their worldly possessions.
It got sold to a Tasmanian guy Nigel Lemon (now deceased) and left the state.
That could have been a decade ago.
Sadly, no one has any details of engine number etc but i have often thought it would be nice to know of its whereabouts in case it ever came up for sale again.
If anyone on here knows of any SF-1's in Oz maybe you could put me in touch in case their knowledge of their bikes history overlaps with mine and we can positively ID the bike.
Cheers
Louis

When the Sydney club did the Tassie tour last November Cam took us around to visit a couple with a huge bike collection. It was so big I have hazy memories as to a lot of it, they did have a WW2 German sidecar plus a few Laverda twins. I don't remember specifically if any of the Laverdas had a chair attached though. That's all I got

My SF2 frame had a sidecar fitted to it. When I bought it, the chair had been gas axed off, but all the mounts were there. The bloke I bought it off thought is was used for Speedway. Purchased at Singleton NSW.

Bomber, if your brother fitted the sidecar there will be a dead giveaway. The front mount was welded to the side of the headstock. But, the headstock had a hole put in it and the tube was welded into the hole.

Very tricky without eng no or rego info, Louis. Lots of broken up SFs out there. I have a frame and engine cases from two different bikes making up the SFQ. Bought my SF1 when it was 18 mths old in 1974 but never came across an orange one in all my years travelling around Oz, living in Darwin, Perth and Melbourne.

I'm not holding out great hopes of finding her given its a long shot but you never ever know if you never ever have a go i think the saying goes.
Cheers Gents

Don?t give up that easily, recently bought my 74 3C which I sold around 77, there?s a lot of Laverda?s still lurking in sheds out there

Funny how things turn out.
I brought the rear wheel of that frame in 85, from the bike shop in singleton. A yes the shop owner told me it was a speedway outfit, he didn't know what happened to rest of it.
Should have brought the frame as well.
Now the wheel lives on my GTL.

:o I?ll be buggered!
The shop had closed when I purchased it. An add in the Trading Post said they had 10 tons of motorbike parts for sale. I bought the frame for $50 in 1997.
