Looking for an S tank

I am collecting pieces for my 1969 S.
As I said I am looking for an S tank.
All the usual:
in good condition,
reasonably priced,
would like to see lots of pics,
etc.

Whats wrong with mine, It is missing.  :-[ (The image in my post is an online image.)
I am building up a naked S frame.
(Yes It would probably be more cost effective to buy a complete bike)

yes it is nice.
I was hoping for the older style with the screw on cap. I had a lead two day s ago to an old tank in Holland. Owner sold it to someone else

I have actually thought of buying one like this and cutting up my old GT tank with its screw on cap and giving life to a Frankenstein S tank.

That is an SF tank.
S tank has filler on the side with screw cap.

Rare since only made for a year or so.

Hi Paul,
To me an S tank only came with the screw on cap. However I have seen some images calling a bike an S with the Smiths, Verlucci controls Bosch switches everything else correct age and correct vendor. Except the flip up cap on an otherwise S style tank. Was there any cross over of the flip up cap on an S tank? Would this combination be an SF or SF0 ?
 
There was a progressive change from the S to the SF, so there was a mix of parts. There would seem to be a few ex factory bastard bikes about.
What defines the S above all are the Grimeca brakes, the front one being different to the GT Grimeca.
Sport Freni. Freni is brakes. The term was introduced when Laverda began casting their own brakes.

The S evolved a bit over the year or so it was made. As I wrote you, mine had an air filter and cross over exhaust. Original since the person I bought the bike from had had it since 1972.

Some probably had the flip up central tank cap but you could probably count those on a pair of hands.
I think mine has a number in the 3300 something.

I don't use the SF0 terminology.
The SF came out in 1970.
It changed for the 1972 model year, for me it's a 72 SF, then SF1 for 73.

:-\ at times I think I should just make it an SF. I have those parts.

What's it's frame number?
You may already have mentioned it, but I forget.

A lot of screw caps are modified because of breathing problems.
The tank breathes trough a tube on the inside which doubles as an overflow tube. Some screw caps have a very small breather hole.

The S is one of the rarest of Laverdas and specific parts are hard to come by and often the asking price is hefty.

I don"t think that"s excessive for a rare part,even if you have to repair any leaks,look at Bosch headlamps which aren"t that rare lately. ;)
