Looking for my old black `74-5 3C.

Hi all, I`m in Melbourne Australia, I`m interested in finding out what happened to an early 3c I rebuilt back in 1983-4, it had been pulled apart by a savage and left to rot when I discovered it, the owner had a bad habit of "rebuilding" cars and bikes, which he would get half-way and lose interest, I offered him $500 and so began the two year re-build, I had a Laverda mechanic do the engine up to the cases, I did the rest and painted it basic black on the tank and side covers, black late model jota pipes, which I found at Vic M -cycle wreckers I had to fit a set of Honda gauges to get a RWC - but I had to sell it before it was properly finished.
The young guy who discovered it at Vic motorcycle wreckers (where I had sold it) met me once to get a few bits left-over from the build and all I know is he lived in Gippsland. I don`t have any details like frame/engine no`s so there`s not much to go on, just a black 3C, spoked wheels and twin disk front brakes with black 3-2 pipes, so it`s out there somewhere, I`d love to see it now, if it still exists, I hope someone knows this bike and can point me in the right direction.

Hi Rob, I grew up in Victoria, moved to NSW and now Qld. I was always surprised how many Lavs were floating around Melbourne in comparison to the other cities.

There’s a few Victorians here that are Lav tragics, if they don’t own them all, they just about know them all.

Your description is pretty vague, but you never know. Good luck with your hunt.

Hi Rob,
Havent seen the bike in Vic club circles of late, but I have seen one in Eastern Suburbs that fits the description!
From memory it had CR carbs fitted.........

No details apart from the description I wrote, - it was 35 years ago so my memory isn`t what it once was, just like the black 3CL above, but with pillion seat and pegs, wire wheels. The guy at Vic M.c wreckers swapped me the black RGS/jota pipes for the factory 3-1 I had - he had a drum brake 3C and told me mine was one of twenty imported that year, I wish I`d kept the details..

Unfortunately it was back in `83-4 so any pics I had are long gone. (I`ve moved around a lot and my ex-wife has any pics from back then) - that`s a good idea, I`ll call her and check. Thanks for the idea Dellortoman
This is a close match, just the drum brake was twin Brembo on mine.

See if she has a close up picture of the frame number or engine number ........... wives are so into that stuff ... not.

I don`t think it did, I remember having the upper-front frame rails welded-up, that and a strip of steel bracing the frame at the steering head - that`s one way of identifying it, the guy who bought it met me once at Oakleigh to pick-up some bits left over and a manual.
Did you get it with a non-standard front guard and black pipes ?

She wasn`t into bikes at all, after she came on a Ducati GT860 with me up to Northern NSW, we had to stop for bum-breaks each 200 miles or so and I put her on the plane for the homeward leg, - I got a few extra nights with a cute young thing I met while we were there, plus ride how I wanted to when I rode home to Melbourne.
She never got on a bike again !!
