I replaced the original corroded Lucas flasher with a new one that did not last very long, and looking at it’s fragile filament construction I can see why. I,ve looked into a solid state replacement but they appear too large- can anyone tell me what automotive brand and model will fit?

Kellerman R1.
Big advantage, it's much smaller and it'll run LEDs or incandescent bulbs and you can set your watch by the flash interval, unlike the clockwork ones.

The picture of the flasher relay that you posted in another thread identifies it as a Lucas 8FL type 36, which is a 2-pin relay.
I'm not sure how it's mounted on a Laverda 750, but if you get something of a similar size you may be able to use the original mounting system.

Given the type of Lucas relay you're replacing, you must have the original indicators with incandescent bulbs (not LEDs), so you'll need a load independent flasher relay, which 90% of electronic ones are anyway.

You can get pretty flashy (pun intended) relays these days, with audible buzzers and adjustable flash period. The Kellermann R1 that Mr Sock suggested above will certainly do the job, but they're crazily expensive at around $(US)45. You can get a suitable relay for less than 10% of that cost.

If you're a cheapskate like me, one of these relays will only cost you $(US)3.99. It'll work with either incandescent or LED indicators. It also has adjustable flash cycle time (that I don't think the Kellermann has).
If at some stage you decide to install LED indicators, the flasher will work OK, but the wiring to the idiot light in the dash will need a minor modification.

I run these with a buzzer, loud as fuck- I never leave them on and cars can hear them in traffic. Used them with LED and normal bulbs.
 
Thanks again guys- I'm using Lucas flashers w/ regular bulbs and will try the Kellerman or whatever automotive 2-pin type I can find close to the Lucas size. A buzzer would be nice since the switch feeling is sort of vague.
 
like Paul I also did at one time dislike the flashers on my bike, but when a friend got knocked skywards by a car whle waiting to turn right accros the traffic (in UK) at night (very dark no street lights) with his arm out, he decided that an orange flasher is now a must, I agreed with him and did the same, since then bikes have come with them anyway and are very usefull especially at night and on motorways, better safe than shitcart.
