M1R Fork Brace

Gents,

any update on the M1R fork brace development? I think Red was thinking about developing one, no?

Here are some pics of a quiet simple one made by "KERN":

http://kern-stabi.suedlichtservice.de/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=30&products_id=167&osCsid=e11de044b2ffe6ca9e0067789815e7ef

The advantage of the 3 parts he uses is, that you can adjust it a bit and avoid you bent the fork-legs by installing it (similar to the Telefix-System).

with 4 additional holes in the center plate, you can mount the mudguard directly to it. And with 4 additional holes in the clamps you could even mount it to the original mounting points of the fork-leg...

Quiet cost-efficient solution: 139? for a one-off. Not to bad...

Anyone else interested? The more we get together, the higher the chance we get a discount... :-)

Best regards

Lothar

The metal above the existing front mudguard/fender mounting lugs on M1R forks is remarkably thin as anyone being unwise enough to attempt to lever out fork seals will have found out. Is this area adequately substantial to handle the stresses that might be transmitted through it via a fork brace. Secondly other than the attractive appearance of such an accessory would there be that much of an effect ?.

Hi Lothar,
Nice one, but I think it could be more solid, thick.
And it would have to be made for our bikes.
Ed: I don't know, but I would suppose there is, as the legs are really long on the forks on these bikes, and the upper and lower tripple are rather thin too.
I would surely buy one if there's someone of the skilled guys from this forum, making one for the M1R for the SFC1000 and alike.
Pref. something like the aforementioned one, that could be split in parts.

Cheers,
jacques.

have had two SFC 1000's through the workshop in the last 7 days
both of them had the fork brace plate bolted on to the upper fork lugs
did not think there was a market for fork braces for MR1 forks as they seemed to come out standard with them

we just finished designing and machining our new fork braces for the 500 Monty's.
I don't agree with this adjustable bullshit, if we have done our measurements correctly then a made for purpose one piece fork brace is way better anytime.

Nice kit Red.
Didn't you have some early problems with triple braces as they forks were not all machined exactly the same?

Hey Grant,
No, not had any problems with the triple braces, they have all fitted like a glove so far.
I just put that out there so I didn't have to make too many of them.  :D
Get bored doing the same thing over and over, prefer to make something new and different.

Hey Lothar, that is a secret.
I thought I showed you one at Spa.?

Attached a shot of the triple brace, same principal, they have a wedge underneath.
Monty ones will have two each leg as we reduced the overall dimensions of the Monty brace to save weight as much as possible.
Thus room diminished and wedge became smaller.

Trick hey.?

Red uses a very clever, almost invisible clamping method.  Come around and I'll show you, got one for a 38mm Marzocchi in stock.

Mmmh - looks great... :-) I think, for the M1R you could even re-use the "noses" that the original "fork-brace" is mounted to...

Piet: might take you up on the offer; maybe we can combine that with a check of the SFC engine of my 0001 bike...  ;)

or - how about coming to the "Stammtisch" this Friday and bring the fork-brace with you. I think even the Guzzi riders would benefit from seeing some nice piece of Australian craft-mans-work... :-)

So shall we take a poll on how  many would want one of Red's nice fork braces made for the SFC1000 M1R's keeping the original ears?
It would also have to be able to adopt the front fender as well, please.

Cheers,
Jacques.

well you will have to wait for the SFC 1000 Redax brace
I'm heading back to work this Sunday and will not be back until after the New Year, will design one next time I'm home
Figure I'll be seeing a bit more of the SFC 1000's next year so plenty of chances to measure one.

Mar, if you would like the Marcozzhi fork brace let me know what country you are in and we can arrange something.

Mr Dixon, your 500 brace left in the mail yesterday.

Red,
I'm in for one too. Hopefully as described. But I'll leave that to you... ;)
The use of the original front fender and it's holes is a must though. Don't want to modify it.

Cheers,
Jacques.

Not for M1R but after the talk about fixed / adjustable fork braces here is one from UK E Bay that claims to be for 35mm Cerianis :-

that Cerani fork brace is just straight out pig ugly

we use our same design for the Cerani but modify the upper section to accept the dust cover
on the Marzocchi fork brace the brace slips over the top of the stanchion far enough so the dust cover part sticks through
in attached shot, bike on the lifter has one of our braces on a Cerani front end
Orange Jota behind is my bike and she has a fork brace on Marzocchi front

made a noticable difference to the Jota with the looooong Marzocchi front end they use

Mar, have your e-mail.
