M1R Fork Disassembly

Got the brake side fork leg apart by removing the 8mm hex socket cap screw from bottom of the slider.

Any ideas on how to get the clutch side fork leg apart?  I can't get the 8mm hex socket cap screw out of the bottom of the slider.  It is completely loose, but won't release.  Don't know how this is built inside, so I don't wnat to bang on it too hard.  The slider breaks real easy (cast aluminum, yeah?)  Oh, top of fork is already apart.  See magnificent tool I built to remove top bit below. I may market these and make my fortune!  :D  And, BTW, this is Lothar's old SFC1000 under resto.

Put the springs and preload spacers back in, the pressure on the damper rod helps hold the bits'n'bobs inside from rotating.
A rattle gun and long hex bit also make it much easier to get the screw out without the innards rotating.  If you don't have them, take the whole leg to your local garage with a few beers, rattle it out then just nip it lightly back up till you get home, it should come out easily the second time.
The innards sometimes stick in the bottom of the fork leg in all the sludge there, loosening the screw till it's only engaged by say about 2-3 turns and giving it a sharp tap should dislodge the whatsimyjigger.  Sometimes a collar remains stuck down there, depends on the model, possibly not an issue with M1R's.  Crispin (XBCoupeJota) posted a little while back with a solution for this, though I can't remember what it is.  The search button is your friend.

Whatever you do under no circumstances 'prise' out the seals without plenty of support around the top of the slider, as it's a piece of cake to snap a chunk out of it.
