Magnets under tank.

Finally managed to take a photo of the inside of my Laverda tank, showing the effect of a circular magnet adjacent to the fuel taps. This right hand tap is not usually turned on, relying on the left hand to supply my riding skill or lack of. This right hand tap has no riser tubes, and is a fuel drain of last resort, which happened today, i was already on reserve and started to run out a few miles from home.

Back to the piccy, the circle that looks like a washer is the magnetic debris following the circular magnet under the tank, similar "circle" on the left hand lower tank shelf adjacent to the sugar block and riser tubes.

While not a panacea for all tank debris, it does perform as i had hoped, these last 20 years or more. Maintenance time just siphon off the debris while the magnet is removed or drag the debris to a different location for removal. Have a stock of 20 by 10 by 5mm rectangle N52 grade to replace the 10mm disk type, have earned their keeper, no pun intended, well not an obvious one...

Gees John, you will be parking under a Pyramid next, might make a good sideline selling those magnets. Good to hear you have a regoed Laverda again.
 
That was so sad, it completely destroyed his credibility. BTW I was serious about buying those tank magnets, I bought a magnetic sump plug off some BMW model 30 years ago as that really is a great idea. It did surprise me how it lost its magnetism maybe after 15 years of sitting in very hot oil. It's now replaced with one that has a much stronger magnet recently. My Atlas has one as well.
 
Vince, Samarium Cobalt magnets are high temperature resistant, though have hardness like glass and do shatter easily, not as high in flux density as Neodymium, though fairly strong all the same. Think i paid about $25 for 20 rectangular neo N52 permanent magnets for the tank underside. j
 
Normal people ride Laverda, there is a problem with that statement, not even a magnet could fix, you lot are a worry..... Ommmmmm, j
 
Do I hear the whoosh whoosh of Black Helicopters in the distance? Occasionally on long drives, I would by accident dial up an odd religious radio station on the north coast wanking on about one world government and one currency, black helicopters and the antichrist. What horrified them, sounded kind of sensible to be. All but the black helicopters, and the antichrist bit. I really must be odd.
 
No need for angst Vince, others will assess your degree of "not one of us, or one of us", human nature to provide assessment, counselled sort or no. Mind you, black helicopters read as a worry.

Just checked on ebay, lots of SmCo magnets in many profiles that will do a sump plug readily. Even counter sunk hole type. Curie point in the 200 degrees C plus category. j
