Main cables renew questions

I want to replace my main cables and still have some 16 mm² red and black flexible wire lying around.
Laverda manufactured agricultural vehicles, but do we also need very thick cables for our motorcycles, or is 16 mm² thick enough?
Can I use the M6 nut under the starter motor as a suitable earth point?(RGS)
Because the frame is now powder coated, I want to use the bolt on the air filter housing above the battery as an earth point for the frame. I have already stripped it.
Any tips or points to consider?

Here's a starter for 1 ! I think the current ratings are normally based on 1 metre return which works in your favour as the combined length Inc negative lead is probably closer to 0.75m

I would suggest there's a few variables in how much your starter demands, guess you could measure it. If your cabling and crimps don't get warm when cold cranking, then resistance is low.

16 mm² is plenty. The practical issue is flexibility of the cable and ease of routing....and size of fixing hole in the lug. Cable ratings are somewhat irrelevant given the short duration of the current pulse and cable lengths.
Yep, the starter motor fixing bolt is a good point for earthing, as well as a separate frame earth to circumvent the rubber engine mounts.
