Merry Christmas 2021

Thanks guys, I wasn't aware of that special plumbing epoxy. I was just planning to mix up a putty out of some old marine epoxy and filler that I have lying around. The range of technical information on this forum never ceases to amaze me.

Hi Ozzis,
how is the new Year, hope fine for all of us.
We will start to find out in 20 minutes.
I am just in quarantain 😷 but feel fine 😄

2022 is off to a lousy start in Tasmania. We'd been covid-free up until now, but our government decided in its wisdom to open up our borders on December 15th. They said everyone would be required to have a negative covid test before being allowed to travel here, but they were overwhelmed by numbers and gave up trying to enforce that. Now covid omicron is spreading exponentially through our community. Their reason for opening up the borders was that the hospitality industry needed tourists over the festive season. But it backfired because everyone is staying away from pubs, clubs and restaurants in droves for fear of getting crook.

The government said not to worry because all the infrastructure was in place to deal with covid and keep the spread under control, and the hospitals were all geared up for an influx of covid patients. Their covid testing and contact tracing systems were overwhelmed within days and now they've just thrown their hands in the air and given up. People are being turned away from testing facilities. They're now saying we all have to look out for ourselves and buy our own rapid antigen test kits from pharmacies. But no test kits are available in pharmacies. Our public health system is stretched to its limits anyway, even without the extra workload of covid. The government is now saying the health system won't cope and people who get sick should stay at home and be cared for by family.

It's hard to believe the levels of incompetence and blatant dishonesty displayed by the honourable members of our government. What a bunch of lying fuckwits.

Sorry for the rant. I'm feeling pissed off.

Cam, if you didn’t see this coming you’ve had your head buried in the sand....... welcome to how the rest of the worlds been living for the last 2yrs. Was good while it lasted wasn’t it 😳

There stockpiling RAT tests next to their toilet paper mountain here. Maybe we deserve the issues we create. There that overwhelmed the tests they are doing are being stuffed up. I am one week away from my booster and have my fingers crossed. I haven't heard but I bet New Year crowds were non-existant last night. It's the lockdown you have when the people are too scared to move even when it's legal.

The point I was making was that the Tassie government has had 2 years to learn from mistakes elsewhere and to make sensible preparations for this pandemic arriving here. But they didn't. It's a total cock-up.

Omicron is going gangbusters here now, as it is elsewhere. But because the test facilities here are hopelessly inadequate, the numbers they are reporting are just a small % of what's really going on. People queueing up hours before a test centre opens, and still can't get tested because they run out of test kits within a couple of hours of opening, FFS

At least I didn't vote for these state government idiots (same political party as our federal government). I voted for other idiots that probably wouldn't have done any better.

At least WA deferred opening the border until February despite the squawking from the tourism industry. And then 1 unvaccinated and infected French backpacker flew in from QLD 1 hour before we closed that border. Attended several large "raves" along with a pile of selfish self entitled fuckwits who provided false information at checkin and are now impossible to trace. So far so good as only a handful of positives have turned up.

Definitely not looking forward to the borders opening, it is going to be the choas we have observed elsewhere despite the extra time to prepare. At the frontline it has been a clusterf**k from day 1, misinformed, mishandled, underequipped and fed BS.

All I can say is F**k the Federal coalition and f**k their co-conspirators in NSW who have been determined to let the virus rip from day 1.

I have missed 3 local day rides with the Sydney blokes as it's still a week before my booster and I am not risking it till then. Not good but that's just the way it worked for me. It's 2 years in and I didn't personally know anyone with it till just before Christmas, and now it's very close and thankfully found before Christmas lunch got the whole family done.
