MIKUNI Push-pull choke

I know this is going to be an idiot question, here goes though:-
Just fitted a set of MIKUNI'S to my bike and have the problem of the pull choke clashing with the left hand fuel tap.
I have the cable conversion parts on order, however, is there some trick for removing the pull choke knob?
The end of the link rod appears to be threaded, just can't get the knob to unscrew though.
Sure I'm missing something so simple - any advice?

When Keith Nairn fitted my Mikunis, he fitted fuel taps with the tack off pointing downwards, presumably to avoid this issue
 
Hi, i fitted the 10 degrees angle stubs from redax, which means more space for the carbs, no issue with the knob. Using those means using k&n filters, or cutting the air box.
 
Cable conversion is pretty simple. If you've ordered the bits, excellent, you'll have a nice, neat job.

But for anyone who'll settle for a rough as guts job like mine, you can make the required bits yourself. They're nothing more than bits of sheet steel about 1 to 1.5 mm thick formed into shape. It's a bit of farting around, but if you're handy with a hacksaw, file, drill and hammer, it's not a difficult job to fabricate them, or at least a reasonable facsimile. Oh, and you need a cable and the wherewithal to solder a nipple onto it. The original Laverda lever is perfect for the job.

Thanks, from the photo it seems that the choke rod has been shortened otherwise you'd have the same issue. The modified knob is a quick fix - let's see how it works in practice 🙂
